GARY Burton recorded his second victory on the River Ouse in a month when Manea Angling Club fished the Coppers stretch on Sunday.
He fished pole all day to land roach in his net of 8lb 8oz. Manea will be back on the Old Bedford, at Welches Dam, on Sunday.
With few local matches at the weekend, several March anglers fished the open match on Bargate Drain, Boston, and we picked up the top two places.
I won the match with 10lb 15oz that included a tench and skimmer bream. All were taken on worm over groundbait on the pole at 12.5m.
Rob Graves was the runner-up with 7lb 13oz.
The biggest match of the weekend was on the Nene, at Oundle, where 120 anglers competed for honours.
Whittlesey angler Lee Kumczuk topped the list when he fished worm and caster to take 25lb of skimmer bream on the pole. He also helped Oundle's Van der Eynde to the team title.
Mark Pollard was the winner of Saturday's Broads Championships match on the Bure and Thurne.
Mark hooked 33lb of skimmers using a feeder and red maggot hookbait.
Also on Saturday, Will Freeman won the match held on the River Yare, near Norwich, with 17lb of roach to 8oz on caster.
With the weather turning colder, it is time to consider the piking tackle. The best areas at the moment are the Twenty Foot, at Chain Bridge and Shepperson Bridge, the Sixteen Foot, at Bedlam Bridge and Stonea.
The Forty Foot at Chatteris and Reed Fen are worth a try and the Olde Nene, above the bypass bridge, can also be good.
Steve Smalley is still doing well on the lakes and for the second week running, he won at Ely's High Flyers Lake. Steve netted 164lb to edge the match by just two pounds.
Bob Nudd won the match at Cross Drove on Saturday when he landed 53lb of carp to 3lb. Bob fished maggot on the pole all day.
Mill View fished the Head Fen Lake, at Little Downham, and premier float maker Ray Sladden won the match with 61lb taken close in on luncheon meat.
Mill View will be fishing Decoy at the weekend.
King's Lynn Angling Club will be hosting a couple of big matches next month.
The first will be held on the cut off channel on Saturday, October 20 and the second will be on the 10mile bank section of the Great Ouse on Saturday, October 27.
Anyone wanting a ticket should call Dave Burton on 01366 387870.
The first March Town Open will take place on the Old Nene, March, on Sunday, October 28.
Anyone wishing to take part should call me on 07970 673439.
Finally, there will be an open match at Willowcroft Fishery, Wisbech St Mary, on Sunday, October 7.
