TEENAGE speedway ace Adam Portwood finished second in the opening round of the 2011 British Youth 500cc Speedway Championship.
Portwood, from March, has been riding since the age of six, finished third in last year’s under-15s British Championship. The 15-year-old scored 11 out of 12 points in the first four qualifying heats in Somerset at the weekend but finished second in the final after the race was stopped when Adam Kirby fell off his bike.
Nathan Stoneman was declared the winner with David Abraham third and Kirby fourth. The next round is at Buxton on June 12.
