Thursday evening (July 12) saw Three Counties Running Club (TCRC) members travel to Eye to take part in the ‘Eye Charity 5 miler’.

A total of £1,000 was raised and all money taken for the event was donated to the NoPainNoGainUK charity.

It was a really warm evening and with the race starting at 7.30pm it made for a long, warm, sunny run. The mixed terrain course that took on part of one of the legs of the Green Wheel Relay was hilly in places but very well supported.

The first club member home was new runner to the club Sharntelle Arlington in a personal best (PB) of 43:48 followed by Sarah-Jane Macdonald in a PB time of 44:34 knocking nearly three-and-a-half minutes off her previous five mile time.

Next home was Vicki Drake also with a Fantastic PB of 44:47 followed by another new runner for the club Steve Arlington, father to Sharntelle in a PB of 56:43.

On another very warm Saturday morning, two club members travelled to Manea to take part in the charity 5k event called ‘Beat the Tractor’.

This was such a fun event racing across mixed terrains to try to beat two tractors to the finish line.

Vicki Drake and Sarah-Jane Macdonald crossed the line together in a time of 27.01 both just beating the tractor to the line.

Junior Parkrun at Wisbech Park had a great turnout of 52 runners on a rather warm morning.

First club runner Home was Maisie Macdonald in 5th position knocking 12 seconds off her time to get a new PB of 9:14.

There was a flurry of junior club runners to finish with next across the line Hayden Hall 10:29, Casey Grange 11:07, Stephanie Harbord 15:34, William Durkin 15:47, Emily Salter 16:18, Jessica Salter 17:06, Joseph Durkin 22:01 and Laurence Durkin 23:45.

Also our very own Nick Sheehan took part in the 2018 UK Challenge in Brecon Beacons with his team finishing 3rd and 1st veterans team.

The challenge is over 24 hours of running, mountain biking, canoeing, orienteering and problem solving over three days.

Seventy two Teams from major businesses competed through stifling heat and gruelling terrain on a series of challenges.

In each stage every team has to devise its own strategy to complete the stage as quickly as possible whilst gaining as many points on a variety of challenges.

Including challenges such as solving complex problems, constructing a large catapult from bits of wood or performing a river crossing.

One stage involved summiting South Wales’ Highest Mountain Pen-Y-Fan as quickly as possible and then following the ridgeline for over 8.5 miles in under three hours.

The beautiful scenery of the Brecon Beacons being host to most stage with the kick off at the stunning Cardiff Castle.

Other stats: four miles of canoeing on the boat stage. 527 meters of ascent on the Pen-Y-Fan stage. Over 4,000 calories burnt on Friday. Seven hours of sleep in three days.
