A TEAM of six drivers fromrace car manufacturers Tiger entered the Birkett Six Hour Relay - a race dubbed as one of the most dangerous in the world.

The Birkett is now in its 58th year and operated under a handicap basis to give cars of differing performance the opportunity to compete on 'equal' terms in a long distance race.

Handicaps were based on the times drivers have done on the Silverstone National or comparable circuits.

The difference in performance between cars is huge, from 1920s chain driven Frazer Nash through to modern day Radicals.

The Thorney Toll-based Tiger team was managed by Laura Dudley and consisted of drivers Jack Walton, Stewart Fenton, Adam Wilkins, James Castro, Chris Brooks and Clive Seer.

The race featured a standing start of 51 cars, with Tiger on the 15th of 25 rows.

It did not take long for the safety car to come out as a Radical span in a bomb burst of bodywork and grass at Becketts, taking two other cars with it. Light rain and spilt oil made driving treacherous.

The Tiger team finished in the middle of the field - six places better than last year.

Next year Tiger plan a full assault is on the Birkett, and will be aiming for a top finish.

Several new Tiger race cars are in development between now and then, including further development work on the all new RS6 all-aluminium bodied car.

Tiger's next race will be at Brands Hatch on tomorrow (Saturday).
