Lea Jordan admits that times are tough at Chatteris Town after watching them fall to their heaviest defeat of the season last weekend.

The Lilies were hammered 6-0 in their trip to high-flying Great Shelford on Saturday to send Jordan to his fourth straight defeat since coming in as manager last month.

But the former Ramsey Town boss is remaining upbeat, despite his men being stuck in the bottom four of the Kershaw Premier Division.

“I have to praise the lads for not chucking in the towel,” he said.

“We had four first team players in the game and the rest were reserves, who gave it their all.

“We gave them a few goals but apart from that we never gave up. Without the lads that played on Saturday we would not have had a team on the day so I couldn’t be mad and I appreciate what they did.”

Jordan also admits that having a threadbare squad is beginning to take its toll as the Lilies head into a vital stage of their season which sees them take on bottom-four rivals Sawston twice in two weeks.

“I think it’s obvious we are missing players but we have to be patient,” he said.

“I’m trying hard to bring one or two players in to the club but it won’t happen overnight.”

Chatteris travel to Sawston this Saturday looking for their first league win since early September.

The South Cambs outfit are sat one place below the Lilies in the league standings and Jordan says that his players must stand up and be counted come 3pm.

“We need to pull ourselves up and dig deep,” he said. “It’s a tough time at Chatteris at the moment but we don’t give up and we go to win.”

It was also a weekend for forget for Chatteris’ reserve side.

They were handed a 9-0 defeat by top-three side Eaton Socon Reserves in the Mead Plant & Grab 1B Division. That heavy loss was only Chatteris’ second of the season.

The club’s ‘A’ team was also on the receiving end of a defeat – although they managed to find the net.

James Bradshaw and Jake Kaval scored in a 4-2 defeat to Fordham Reserves in the Mead Plant & Grab 4B.
