March Town United’s new clubhouse is well on track to be open in time for the new season.

On Saturday, club dignitaries were joined by Lee Brownlow, of builders MJS Projects, and Conservative parliamentary candidate Steve Barclay for a topping out ceremony.

Mr Barclay was shown the inside of the clubhouse, which will include a large bar area, kitchen, home and away team changing rooms and both men’s and women’s referee changing rooms.

Internal works are set to be complete by the end of June and the clubhouse, which will be available for the whole community to enjoy, should be up and running for the kick off of the 2015/6 campaign.

To finance the £215,000 project, the club has secured £100,000 from The Football Stadia Improvement Fund, who are supporters of the Football Foundation and the largest funder of non-league football in the country.

They have also been allocated a grant of £69,150 from WREN and FCC Environment.

WREN is a not for profit business that awards grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK from funds donated by FCC Environment as part of the Landfill Communities Fund.

The work is being carried out by MJS contractors, with the design by architect Matthew Hall.

Vice chairman Gerry Roe said: “This is a massive achievement for the club and we have to thank our funders, Wren and the Football Stadia Improvement Fund for their help, guidance and support in achieving this build.”

Peter McCormick OBE, chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “I am incredibly pleased that work at March Town FC has progressed so well and the project is now in its final stages.

“When complete, the new facility will bring countless benefits to both the club and local community.”

Mr Barclay said: “This will be a fantastic new resource not just for the club but the whole community to enjoy.

“It’s accepted that this part of Cambridgeshire has been under-resourced therefore these much needed facilities are very welcome.”

The clubhouse will be available to hire by other groups and clubs in the town and local area. To find out more, contact Gerry Roe on 07518 864296 or e-mail Roegar1138@aol.com
