Two games in two days against the same opponents produced two very different outcomes for March Town last weekend.

The local side slumped to a 95-run home defeat at the hands of Ramsey in the Cambs & Hunts Premier League last Saturday.

The visitors piled up 250-6 to take control of the Whiting & Partners Division One clash before March, without suspended skipper Tyler Phillips, were removed for 155 in reply.

Saranga Rajaguru was the top-scoring March batsman with 21 as they were reduced to 69-6 at one stage. Spencer Saberton (20), Sam Clarke (19) and Callum Young (19) all made steady contributions in the lower order.

But it was very much March in the ascendancy when the two sides did battle again at The Avenue the following day in Rutland League Division Two.

Promotion-chasing March powered to an eight-wicket victory in a game lit up by an unbeaten century from Andrew George.

The March opener, who plays his Saturday cricket for Longstanton, cracked a boundary-laden 114no as they breezed past Ramsey’s posting of 180-8. George’s mighty 84-ball innings included 13 fours and five sixes.

It’s a big Fenland derby for March tomorrow as they entertain Wisbech at The Avenue, 12.30pm start.

Third-bottom March sit one place above their fellow strugglers in the Whiting & Partners Division One standings.

It’s second-versus-third on Sunday as March go to Castor & Ailsworth, who are one place below them in Rutland League Division Two, 1pm.

* Third-team skipper Anthony Henson stepped up to good effect last Saturday when helping March 2nds to Cambs Senior League victory.

Henson hit an unbeaten 47 to seal a four-wicket triumph at Harwick as the March side eased past their hosts’ offering of 204-5 with an over-and-a-half to spare.

The 3rds were successful without their captain as a young bowling talent took centre stage in a dramatic one-wicket victory.

Sixteen year-old spinner Geoff Kirby produced the best figures of his senior career – 6-24 – in a low-scoring thriller at Needingworth 2nds.

Kirby’s exploits helped to reduce the home side for 89 with Harry Gowler grabbing 2-2. An unbeaten 20 from Nick Usher then ensured the Town side scraped to victory.

March 4ths claimed a second successive Division Four North win when beating Sutton 2nds by 12 runs.

Kylan Nightingale (47) helped the locals to reach 124 before fine bowling from skipper Dave Pomfret (4-26) and Kian Pooley (3-4) got rid of their opponents for 112.
