DIVISION TWO NORTH

Ipswich III 9 March Town I 0

MARCH made the long trip to Ipswich and encountered a much quicker, fitter and stronger team.

By half-time March were three goals down, although they worked hard and played with discipline.

In the second half Ipswich proved their superior fitness and were by far the more dominant side, with March conceding a further six goals without reply.

Matt Bamford was yellow-carded, and while he was off the field, the home side scored three of their six goals.

March Town II 6 Bourne II 1

MARCH put a dismal run of four consecutive defeats behind them with a comprehensive victory on Saturday.

Town opened the scoring with a penalty corner strike from captain Charlie Saunders. Minutes later, March were awarded a penalty stroke for a stick infringement, and John West scored.

March went on to take a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead after a Matt Wallis strike.

In the second half, a good penalty corner routine saw Saunders score his second goal to put his side four goals clear.

Player of the match Andrew Wright was instrumental in setting up a number of attacking moves and, from one of these, Wallis put March 5-0 ahead.

Good team work again led to March's sixth goal, and it was Wallis who scored to complete his hat-trick.

Just before the end, Bourne scored an excellent goal but it was no more than a consolation effort.

March Town III 8 Cambridge Nomads IV 2

TOWN made it three wins in three weeks with a comprehensive defeat of Cambridge Nomads on Saturday, and six goals for player of the match Charlie Boughton.

The visitors began positively and within three minutes had taken the lead, thanks to some slack defensive work from the home side.

March gradually regained the initiative, and Boughton's first-half hat-trick sent them into the break with a comfortable lead.

The second half saw March playing some excellent hockey with Jacob Fraser and Daniel Woods outstanding.

Boughton helped himself to a second-half hat-trick and Nick King scored twice to see March home to an emphatic win.

Nomads managed to squeeze in a late consolation goal.

March Town IV 1 Long Sutton III 5

LONG Sutton scored their first goal after 10 minutes and a second, conceded just two minutes later, soon put March in some disarray.

For the remainder of the half, March did play some decent hockey, but by half-time the damage was already done.

March came out well at the start of the second half and captain Ian Winter reduced the arrears soon after the restart.

Then Long Sutton scored twice in quick succession after about 20 minutes play.

The visitors put the result beyond doubt with their fifth goal, just before the end of normal time.

Goalkeeper Scott Bamford was named March's player of the match.
