IT WAS a losing draw for Wisbech I in their Tucker Division One match on Sunday but it could have been much worse.

Entertaining league leaders Ramsey, Wisbech produced a solid bowling performance and Craig Johnson (3-39) and James Williams (3-60) proved to be the pick of the bowlers as Ramsey scored 190-8 from 41 overs.

The home side got off to a disastrous start when they lost openers James Staveley and Daniel Mason with just a single run on the board.

Sam Albutt resisted the visitors' attack to score 33 but it was left to Gary Freear (70 not out) and Johnson (16 not out) to keep Wisbech on the pitch to score 144-7 from 41 overs.

It was a different story on Sunday when the Wisbech openers put in an impressive performance at Stamford in Rutland Division Two.

Wisbech needed a win to lift themselves away from the bottom of the league and with Simon Freear (79), Keith Jakings (63), Dan Mason (47) and James Williams (39) all scoring well, Wisbech carved out an imposing total of 259.

Orlando Prestidge (2-17) took two early wickets to put Stamford on the back foot and although the home side battled back, they ran out of overs 40 runs short.

Wisbech have certainly turned their fortunes around with three victories in a row and 57 points from a possible 60.

The second team's match at Warboys on Saturday was abandoned after torrential rain and their weekend didn't get any better on Sunday, when they lost at home to Chatteris in the Fenland Trophy.

The Wisbech batting order failed to cope with the visitors' bowlers and Solomon Prestidge (31) and Doug Lemoir (25) top-scored in the home total of 130 all out.

Chatteris' Peter Munns (3-9), Kurt Cunningham (2-11) and Max Kelly (2-26) all produced excellent spells with the ball.

In reply, the in-form Chatteris team got off to a good start and James Dawson (43) and Dave Rose (33) helped to propel the visitors to victory with six wickets remaining. John Mallett (3-20) proved to be Wisbech's main threat with the ball.

Mallett was also impressive for Wisbech III in their West Norfolk Division Four match against King's Lynn on Saturday.

The home side were steady with the bat and Jason Smith (52), Howard Atkins (42) and Mallett (28 not out) gave Wisbech a good score of 206-9.

King's Lynn never got close thanks to Mallett's superb 5-22 and they were bowled out for just 81.
