Wisbech season started with a disappointing four run defeat against Sawston and Babraham.
Wisbech lost the toss and bowled and were up against as Sawston put on 72 before a fortunate run out allowed Wisbech to get a grip of the run rate.
Chris Clark playing his first game for nearly six years took a wicket with his first ball back and in tandem with Skipper Gary Freear who bowled his ten overs 4 for 30 kept Sawston batsmen on the back foot.
In his second spell Kieran Haynes came back and took three quick wickets as Sawston to 186 all out. At tea Wisbech would have been confident at chasing this total.
Wisbech lost wickets at regular intervals with four of the top six getting into double figures but none of them went beyond 30. Paul Edgeller top scored with 41 from 53 balls and nearly saw Wisbech over the line.
Mr Freear said: “I thought that we started well in the field but then had a poor spell but I still thought that it was only just about par.
“They bowled well early on and made it hard to score but having got ourselves into winning positions on three occasions it was disappointing not to get over the line.
“Our batsmen need to make bigger scores once they get in.”
