Wisbech Town manager Dick Creasey says the loss of three key players means he is once again on the lookout for new players.

Neal Spafford, Stuart Cobb, Billy Smith and Fraser Bayliss were on target as the Fenmen continued their impressive pre-season form with a comfortable 4-0 win over Colney Heath at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on Saturday.

But Creasey has been dealt a blow with injuries to defenders Paul Cousins, who suffered an ankle ligament strain in training, and Stacy Cartwright, who will be out for 10 weeks after fracturing his ankle.

Matthew Lunn, a teacher by trade, is also unavailable at the moment as he is spending the summer in Spain.

He said: “Pre-season has been going quite well - we’ve had some very good training seasons and in the two games shown we can do things - but it is a knock-back to lose three players in such a short period.

“Stacy Cartwright will be out for 10 weeks and, although we are hoping to have Paul Cousins back in two weeks for the start of the season, he will have missed three weeks training.

“We were happy with our squad of 16 but losing three players means we need to reinforce our squad and bring in a couple of players.”

Creasey has been encouraged by new signings Josh Ford, Danny Beaumont and Fraser Bayliss, who all featured against Colney Heath.

He said: “Josh Ford played up front with Danny Beaumont in a new partnership and both did very well.

“Once they gain an understanding of one and other they will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in this league.

“Josh is a strong lad who holds the ball up well, while Danny is a more delicate footballer who works his socks off. They are a good partnership.

“Fraser Bayliss was recommended to me by the Holbeach manager and has also done well. If you give him a chance he’ll take it.

“He can play wide left or wide right so he gives us another option.”

Wisbech’s pre-season continues when they host Fakenham Town on Thursday, kick-off 7.45pm.
