Bach’s St Matthew Passion will be performed at Peterborough Cathedral on Saturday, March 29.
The piece will be performed by Peterborough Choral Society, Peterborough Cathedral Choirs and Peterborough Festival Chorus.
The Saraband Consort, a London based baroque orchestra using period instruments, will accompany the singers and the conductor will be the cathedral’s director of music, Robert Quinney.
The soloists will be Simon Wall (evangelist), Cecilia Osmond (soprano), Frances Bourne (mezzo-soprano), Mark Dobell (tenor) and Nicholas Morris (baritone).
Mr Quinney said: “This is undoubtedly one of the greatest masterpieces of Western music.
“It is a deeply dramatic and moving account of the Passion of Christ and runs the whole gamut of musical styles from the simple, unadorned chorales, to virtuoso displays by the solo instrumentalists and singers.”
The concert, which takes place at 7.30pm, is a collaboration between Peterborough Cathedral and Vivacity.
