An innovative jazz-based service is being held at Ely Cathedral on Sunday evening, October 20.

Professional jazz musician and Church of England Worship Minister Dan Forshaw is staging his Jazz Vespers service at 7pm, as part of a new series of monthly evening services.

Mr Forshaw said: “I am delighted that the Dean and Chapter have invited us to lead a service of Jazz Vespers in the stunning setting of Ely Cathedral. “Jazz speaks about life. Right from its beginnings in Congo Square, New Orleans, jazz has been about communicating the truths about all of life from the happy times to the sad times. This service reflects on jazz history using hymns, spiritual songs and improvisations to bring about a new hope in ones soul.”

Mr Forshaw has toured the world as a jazz musician and now works part time for St. James’ Church in Hemingford Grey, as it’s Worship Minister. He has played for jazz services at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral and recently to 20,000 people at the Greenbelt festival in Cheltenham.
