He is one of the biggest popstars in Ireland and has beaten the likes of Drake and Beyonce to the top of charts – but Nathan Carter is now set to impress Cambridge.

The 28-year-old will bring an array of original songs and covers to the Corn Exchange this Saturday (September 22), after his profile on this side of the Irish Sea has grown in the stakes of cross-over country pop.

Clare Butler caught up with Nathan to find out some of his favourite moments from his rise to stardom.

What can people expect from your tour?

It’s an action-packed live show featuring a fantastic six piece band, playing an eclectic mix of country/ folk/ Celtic and Irish traditional music.

It will be combined with new original songs from my new album and a few old classics too…and a few little surprises here and there …so it has got something for everyone!

What are your favourite songs to perform live?

I love them all…but I guess Caledonia and my new single Winnie O`Neill. They are special to me.

Have you been to Cambridge before? If so, what did you think of the city?

Yes I’ve visited Cambridge before; it’s a lovely place and I’m looking forward to returning there this weekend.

There has been a huge rise in Irish country pop in recent years; do you see the industry taking over the UK charts?

I really think that country music has had a major boost in recent years, with artistes like The Shires/Ward Thomas and myself I guess breaking through.

The audiences seem to be getting younger also and in turn I guess this will have a positive effect on the charts, so it’s great to see that happening.

You’ve had an incredible few years travelling for TV and shows in the America – what has been one of your favourite moments?

I’ve had some great moments in the past year, including hosting my own TV series back in Ireland and my Arena show is currently on air on PBS TV in America.

I’ve also had a really special moment this year when I performed recently in Croke Park, Dublin, on live TV at the Pope Francis World Meeting of Families event.

What are your plans for Christmas and the New Year?

I have a very busy December and tour schedule in Ireland, then I’m looking forward to a Christmas break at home with my family.

I always take the first couple of weeks in January off and then I return to the UK for a series of concerts beginning on January 24.

Tickets start at £31.50 and are available from www.cambridgelivetrust.co.uk
