Thousands of people will descend on a Cambridgeshire village when Britain’s most famous daffodil weekend returns on March 18 and 19.
“Every year, up to 10,000 people visit Thriplow to experience the warm and friendly atmosphere of our Daffodil Weekend charity fundraising event,” said organiser Kerstin Rivett. “This year our nominated charity is East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
“Over two days, visitors walk the car-free village to look at the daffodil displays, visit the attractions and open gardens, potter around the stalls, take refreshment in the tea rooms serving homemade cakes and sandwiches, or eat delicious hot food while listening to live music.
“This year we have two new areas, Children’s Thriplow and Country Thriplow, with some exciting new activities.
“We also have The Sealed Knot performing a re-enactment to commemorate Cromwell’s New Model Army camping on Thriplow Heath in 1647.
“Thriplow Daffodil Weekend started in 1969 when the church needed major roof repairs. Residents decided to raise funds by opening their gardens and making cups of tea for their visitors. They made £206 and were so delighted they decided to do it all again the following year and so the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend was born.”
Admission costs £5 for adults, £2.50 for children and under 5s get free entry.
