BUSINESS guru Alex Polizzi will be at the Oak Garden Centre in Chatteris on Friday, as the company hosts a new year winter market that will be filmed for a new TV show.

The event will be recorded as part of BBC 2’s programme The Fixer, a series that follows family run businesses that need a helping hand from Alex, to take them forward.

The market will run from 3pm to 7pm, and will include arts and crafts, gift stalls, tasty food, children’s fun activities and workshops.

Entry is free, and a free shuttle bus will travel between the garden centre and Chatteris library and police station, because parking at the garden centre will be limited.

David White, who helps runs the businesses with his sons Brad and Ross, said: “Alex has been here several times, and we have got on very well with her, although of course we have had our spats.

“We have had a terrible year because of the weather, and it nearly finished us off. But we are fighting back, and we hope that working with Alex will secure our future. This has been a boost that we really didn’t expect, as we didn’t apply to go on the show.”

During Friday’s winter market, about 35 traders will have stalls, and there will be llama and lamb petting, and a chance for visitors to take part in crafts and enjoy refreshments.

“This has been a really exciting project,” added David. “It will be good for the town and put Chatteris on the map. The show will go out in March, with an estimated two million viewers.

“The programme will show we were wanting in some areas, Alex was not impressed with our signage or one of the greenhouses. We have taken her advice on board, and redesigned the shop. We really appreciate her help.

“We have had various industry experts here, with a team of advisors, sometimes there has been up to 24 of them here on a peak day.”
