Autumn fayre takes on a railway theme in March

A free ticket to ride comes to March with a heritage day fayre at St Wendredas Church.

On September 20 from 10am to 4pm the Grade one listed building is turning to the towns’ rich heritage of the railway as one of the Autumn Fayre attractions this year.

On display will be a selection of Albert Marsh’s collection of railwayana, celebrating his 48 years on the railways from lad porter to conductor guard. March Model Railway Club will have on display layouts that have not been seen for a number of years.

Reverend Stocking, as he approaches his first anniversary as priest in charge, a former railwayman before becoming ordained should feel right at home. Displays by local amateur artists and floral artists, along with a lace making demonstration and musical interludes by a local organist, fill the church. The heritage theme continues in the church grounds with Sarah the steam roller, vintage motorbikes and a bouncy castle.

A selection of stalls including local organisations the Raptor Centre, Royal British Legion and in the church hall selling, handmade cards, turned wood items and cakes, along with a refreshment area.

Local groups will also be performing and giving demonstrations in the arena.
