Celebrations at March railway station to mark platforms' 125th anniversary

CELEBRATIONS to mark the 125th anniversary of the platforms opening at March railway station take place on Saturday December 11.

The railway first came to March on December 10 1846 and was open to the public in January 1847. The platforms were opened on November 23 1885.

Events on the day include displays by March Brass 2000, ●March Vintage and Veteran Cycle Club and March Model Railway Club. Fenland Light Railway will have a mini train track set up giving train rides to adults and children.

There will also be railway memorabilia, photography/art displays, carol singing and refreshments.

The event will be visited by North East Cambs MP Stephen Barclay, Fenland District Council Leader Alan Melton and Councillor Andrew Pugh, the Mayor of March.

A steam train, the Christmas White Rose will also stop at the station at approximately 9.10am.

The event runs from 8.45am-11am.
