Bus fans from all over the country will head to Whittlesey this Sunday (May 20) for an event in every transport buffs calendar, Busfest 2018.
Organised by Eastern Bus Enthusiasts (EBE), a group that rescues and restores vehicles of local interest, the event will place 40 classical buses in the town centre for like-minded people to look, touch and even ride from 10am to 5pm.
Partnering with the Ramsey Classic Car Show, free buses will be available every 15 minutes to take people to the Ramsey show that features more than 80 exhibits.
A spokesman said: “The free bus services, using classic vehicles, will connect Whittlesey town centre to Peterborough bus and rail stations, March, Yaxley and Ramsey.
“Busfest will see Market Street, Whittlesey, closed to traffic for the event, at which buses and coaches from the 1940s to the 1990s and beyond from around the country will be displayed.
“There will also be routes to Peterborough, Yaxley, Thorney, March, Turves and Turves.”
Proceeds from the sale of event programmes go towards the EBE’s vehicle collection and last year enabled 1997 Volvo B10B single-decker P112 RGS to be saved for preservation.
The Wright-bodied vehicle ran with Delaine Buses of Bourne for many years.
Stephen Longmire of EBE said: “We’re proud to say that this years Busfest features more vehicles than ever before.
• A 1988 Leyland Olympian double-decker restored in the yellow and white livery of its former operator, Peterborough-based Viscount Bus and Coach, which ran the majority of local services in the city prior to being taken over by Stagecoach in 1995.
• Making its rally debut as a preserved vehicle is former Whippet Plaxton-bodied Volvo B10M VAV 160X.
• Several local operators are sending vehicles. Buses originating everywhere from China Motor Bus to Grimsby-Cleethorpes Transport will be in attendance.
