Pupil from India among A-level students in Chatteris

Aleena Mariya Binoy, who joined the Fenland school from India halfway through the academic year in 2023, was among the many students at the Cromwell celebrating their A-level results today.

A spokesperson for the Active Learning Trust, which runs the school, said: " We had very little knowledge of Aleena's past curricula, but we felt she deserved a chance at biology, chemistry, and maths A-Level.

"Her spoken English at that time, by her own admission, was basic. Aleena then joined the new Year 12 cohort and adapted quickly to the English education system, and her grades swiftly rose.

(Image: Active Learning Trust) "She is now leaving us at the end of Year 13 with three C grades and has a place to study nursing at the University of Lincoln. Her journey with us has been immense, and we wish her every success in the future."

Sixth formers across the country have been collecting their results after sitting exams in May and June, paving the way for future university studies, apprenticeships, or careers, and those at the Chatteris school were no different.

Among those at Cromwell deserving a special mention is Kayla Rickwood and Ashleigh Mason, both achieved two A*s and an A, and are both off to Durham University to study psychology.

Ashleigh said she would like a future career in either forensic psychology or possibly neurological psychology, where she would be looking at the causes behind conditions such as epilepsy and dementia.

(Image: Sarah Cliss/Newsquest) Ethan Broderick is off to read computer science at the University of Surrey having gained an A and two Bs in his results, while Katie Rae Neil is like many other students and will be undertaking a degree-level apprenticeship with AstraZeneca, after achieving four A-levels, including the Bs.

Thomas Ashton was delighted to have attained the grades he needs to attend Liverpool University to study physics - is particularly interested in astrophysics.

Heather Paul, director of Sixth Form at Cromwell Community College, said: "Our students have demonstrated remarkable commitment throughout their A-Level studies and today’s results have made it all worthwhile.

“They are now ready to take the next step as confident young adults - I am very proud of each and every one of them."
